Eligibility Criteria

Graduate Fellowship Deferment

To qualify for this deferment, you must hold at least a bachelor's degree granted by an institution of higher education and have been recommended by an institution of higher education for acceptance into the graduate fellowship program on a full-time basis. You must request the deferment and provide the lender a written statement from an authorized official of the fellowship program. This statement must indicate the anticipated completion date of the program and must certify you meet the deferment criteria. More information can be found on the deferment form.


Rehabilitation Training Program Deferment

To qualify for this deferment, you must either be receiving or scheduled to receive rehabilitation services. The training program must be licensed, approved, certified or recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs (or a state agency responsible for vocational rehabilitation) as providing rehabilitation training to disabled individuals, drug abuse treatment, mental health services or alcohol abuse treatment programs. The program must provide services under a written, individualized plan that specifies the date services are expected to end, and be structured in a way that requires your substantial commitment to your rehabilitation.
